Spelling rules:
'i' Before 'e' - When the letters 'i' and 'e' are together, they are usually spelled -ie-:
relief, believe, friend, view.
There are some exceptions to this rule:
#After 'c', 'e' usually comes before 'i':
deceive, receive;
#When the combination sounds like /ei/ 'e' comes before 'i':
neighbour, weigh, weight, freight, eight;
#However, not all words follow this pattern:
weird, foreign, leisure.
